Don’t Entertain Any Idea Of Going Independent; Even Ashanti Region Won’t Vote For You – Political Scientist To Alan

Following the withdrawal of Alan Kyerematen from the NPP Primaries, a Political Science lecturer at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has advised the former flagbearer aspirant to desist from harboring any intentions of contesting as an independent candidate.

According to the senior lecturer, Alan Kyerematen should not also entertain the idea of breaking away to form his own political party.

Dr. Amakye Boateng who was speaking on Accra-based Asempa FM on Wednesday explained that despite the widespread opinions by some analysts that the former Minister for Trades and Industry can pull a surprise when he breaks away from the NPP, he believes Alan has no chance at all.

Justifying his point of view, Dr. Amakye Boateng explained that the Ashanti Region, which is the home region for Alan is also the stronghold of the NPP. He noted that it is very likely for the Ashanti Region to align with the party’s candidate rather than Alan as an independent candidate.

He therefore stressed that Alan contesting as an independent candidate or with a breakaway party will not cause any surprise or magic in the country.

“He should discard it immediately. He’s not going to cause any magic in this country. Small parties have not survived in Ghana from the time of the struggle for independence till date. Small parties have not fared well. If he [Alan] stands as an independent candidate even Ashanti Region will not vote for him,” the senior political science lecturer explained.

He further alluded to the just-ended Super Delegates Conference of which out of over 120 delegates who voted in the in the Ashanti Region, only 10 voted for Alan.

Dr. Amakye Boateng said Alan’s performance in the Ashanti Region was terrible, and that “a similar thing will happen if he stands as an independent candidate. The people of the Ashanti Region say they support the NPP, and so even if you put a goat there, they will vote for it. Alan shouldn’t forget about that” he postulated.
