E/R: DCE, community clash over funeral grounds project

A dispute has erupted between the District Chief Executive (DCE) and residents of Kusi in the Denkyembour District over a funeral grounds project.

The DCE, Seth Brikorang, wants to stop the project, which was initiated by the Member of Parliament (MP) for Akwatia Constituency, Henry Boakye.

The MP has already begun construction, but the DCE claims it was not budgeted for in this year’s assembly budget.

Lawyer Bernard Bediako, Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), accused the DCE of playing politics and urged him to focus on other areas of need, such as the community’s poor roads.

Youth in the community protested the DCE’s actions, threatening to take action if he continues to obstruct the project.

They claim the community has been neglected for too long and prioritize their road issues over the funeral grounds.

The MP has promised to complete the project before elections, despite the DCE’s opposition, as the chiefs have given him the go-ahead.
