ECG Debt Recovery: GRA, KFC & Ho Airport Disconnected From The National Grid For Unpaid Bills

As the Electricity Company of Ghana embarks on a massive debt recovery from customers nationwide, the Volta Regional Branch has disconnected some consumers for unpaid accumulated bills.

The nationwide revenue mobilization exercise began on Monday, March 20, 2023, and it is expected to continue for many days.

The team in the Volta Region upon the commencement of the exercise visited certain commercial users in the region such as Volta Serene, Abutia Stone Quarry, UHAS, and HTU who owed electricity bills.

According to ECG, per their data some commercial users such as KFC, Ho branch owes GHC 68,000, the Ho Airport owes GHC 63,000, the office of the Ghana Revenue Authority owes GHC55,000, CEPS Training Academy owes GHC80,000 and the Ho Technical University owes GHC402,000.

In effect, the task force disconnected KFC, Ho Airport, GRA Office, and CEPS Training Academy for failure to settle the debt.

However, the Ho technical university paid GH¢200,000 after crunch talks with the ECG and has been told to settle the arrears by end of March 2023.

“We want customers to prioritize the payment of bills and this will enable us to collect more revenue to keep the power sector operating. The company is appealing to all customers to make payment before the disconnection team visits their premises. Customers can make payments at any bank or through mobile money. Customers can also pay by dialing *226# or by downloading the ECG PowerApp,” ECG said in a statement.

The company is set to visit Ho teaching hospital, and the National Communications Authority among others to retrieve about GH¢5 million within the Ho Municipality.
