Ejisu by-election: EC withdraws two officials over alleged bribery incident at polling station

The Electoral Commission (EC) said it has launched an investigation into an alleged bribery incident captured on video at a polling station during the ongoing by-election in the Ejisu Constituency.

The video, which surfaced on social media, depicts a gentleman dropping an envelope on the table manned by the Presiding Officer and Ballot Issuer at the Fumesua Pentecost Church Polling Station (Polling Station Code F311503).

In response to the video, the EC has taken swift action by withdrawing the two temporary staff members involved while investigations are underway.

The statement by the EC emphasized the commitment to upholding principles of integrity, truth, and transparency in the electoral process.

It stated, “The Commission will not countenance acts which cast a slur on the integrity of the institution and will not hesitate to sanction its officials who violate its laws.”

Furthermore, the EC also highlighted the importance of training all temporary staff to adhere to the Commission’s values and reiterated its dedication to ensuring fair and credible elections.

“We take allegations of electoral misconduct seriously and will thoroughly investigate this matter,” it added.

The EC assures the public that the findings of the investigation will be made available in due course.
