Member of Parliament (MP) for Subin Constituency, Mr. Eugene Boakye Antwi, has tasked the media to engage persons with knowledge on the Ejura disturbances to avoid the circulation of misinformation in the media.
She said that authentication of the truth will be established when key persons involved in the matter are interviewed.
The legislator was speaking in connection with the military shootings at Ejura in the Ashanti Region that left two persons dead and four others injured after the burial of one Ibrahim Mohammed popularly known as Kaaka, a social media activist who was murdered in cold blood.
“Clearly, the Member of Parliament Alhaji Braimah for the area has come to say that, the guy is a known NPP activist so this is nothing to do with politics so far as am concerned. And I don’t know why ‘the fix the country’ guys too are weighing into the matter according to the guy’s relatives, he is not a member of fix the country,” he said on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana on Wednesday, June 30, 2021.
.“I think, for now, we should hold our horses. The institutions charged with handling law and order in our country must answer. People are asking why the President shouldn’t get involved. There are institutions charged with the responsibility of protecting our country and I believe that the IGP and the Army Commander have serious questions to answer because they have guys on the floor,” he added.
The MP for Subin said the police must explain to the public their unprofessional behaviour during the Ejura riots.
“They may have taken a reasonable force or they may have used reasonable force in the circumstances of the matter but they have to come and explain to us how the reasonable force came about and how they responded. I think we are all waiting to hear. There’s been a press release from the police as well as the other political parties,” he added.
He said the truth surrounding the Ejura violence will be unraveled when a full-scale probe is launched into the incident.
“That’s why I said we should give the IGP the room and all his ministers to come to parliament and answer. The IGP, the Army Commander so we are talking about three different ministers, Kan Dapaah, Ambrose Dery, and Nitiwul to come to parliament and answer and speak to the nation about it. Because I believe these are matters that demand answers.”
