CPP Ashanti Regional chairman rejects National Chairperson’s preferred candidate for Ejisu by-election

CPP Ashanti Regional chairman rejects National Chairperson’s preferred candidate for Ejisu by-election

The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Emmanuel Gallo, has expressed opposition to the party’s National Chairperson’s preferred candidate for the upcoming by-election in Ejisu, Esther Osei.

Mr. Gallo has filed an interlocutory injunction application against the Electoral Commission (EC) seeking to halt the Ejisu by-election. The move is to prevent the April 30 by-election from proceeding until a lawsuit against the Electoral Commission seeking to stop one Esther Osei from representing the party in the poll.

But on Thursday, April 25, 2024, the party’s National Chairperson Nana Akosua Frimpomaa Sarpong- Kumankumah. was at the Ejisu constituency campaigning for the said Esther Osei, calling on the voters to ensure the CPP candidate wins the April 30 by-election – a situation that depicts a clear sign of departure from the position of the Ashanti Regional chairman of the party.

However, in an interview with Metro TV on News Beat, Mr. Gallo insisted that Esther Osei is not a known member of the party in the region and does not possess a party card, which is a requirement for qualifying to contest on the ticket of the CPP for any position.

Mr. Gallo questioned Esther’s commitment to the party, asking for proof of her membership and dues payment.

He also expressed concern over her lack of knowledge about the party’s constitution and her inability to name the number of polling stations in the Ejisu constituency.

“Let her produce her party card and the dues she pays and who she pays it to, how many years has she been in CPP, does she know the regional executives. When I asked her to tell me the number of polling stations in the Ejisu constituency, she couldn’t tell”

“She made me understand that it’s true she is not a card-bearing member but she only wants to become a CPP person. But I made her to understand that the party has a constitution that one needs to follow” he told Desmond Okraku Danso on Metro TV.

He also emphasized that he is defending the party’s constitution and cannot compromise on its rules and regulations.

“What is happening, it’s not about unity but constitutional issue which we cannot ride over it, that is what is protecting us in the party. I am defending our constitution,” he concluded.
