Election 2024: Bawumia isn’t shying away from Akufo-Addo’s govt – Sissala East MP

Member of Parliament for Sissala East Amidu Chinnia Issahaku has rejected claims being championed by the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) that the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is distancing him from certain policies implemented by the government.

According to Amidu Chinnia Issahaku, who is also the Deputy Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources, Dr. Bawumia has stood his ground and defended the government more than any other member of the governing party.

“Let’s be fair to the sitting vice president. In this New Patriotic Party government, there is nobody, including the president who has defended the policy of this government, progress, and policies than Dr. Bawumia. Of course, there are a few areas he may disagree with but it is not significant for anybody to suggest that Dr. Bawumia doesn’t appreciate President Akufo-Addo’s government, therefore, [why would] he be distancing himself from his government when over the years he is the one who has been speaking and talking on major policies and decisions of government?” Sissala East lawmaker quizzed.

Speaking on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana, Amidu Chinnia Issahaku intimated that the assertion by NDC’s running mate that NPP has failed due to unfulfilled promises cannot be accurate because it comes with every government.

“Professor Naana Jane talks about unfulfilled promises, John Mahama is not new, he has been President before and she herself has been a minister before if you look at the 2012 manifesto of the NDC, page 92, President John Mahama promised to establish MP constituency Development Fund to replace the MP Common Fund, it never happened, it was an unfulfilled promise, John Mahama in the 2012  manifesto which he became president for four years said he will ensure the people directly elect their MMDCEs, page 93 of the NDC manifesto, it didn’t happen…there are so many of them so as for policy proposals that don’t come to fruition, it comes with every government….the fact that you have not fulfilled all your promises does not mean that you have failed,” he said.
