Galamsey Taskforce set ablaze 15 changfangs on Pra River

The District Chief Executive of Akyemansa District in the Eastern region, Paul Asamoah Gyemah, has called for government intervention to fight illegal mining popularly called “galamsey” on the Pra River that flows its banks across the Akyemansa District.

Mr. Asamoah Gyemah together with his galamsey taskforce went after the illegal miners and burnt fifteen changfang machines that the galamseyers have built on the Pra River near “Ensese Anglo village” within the Akyemansa district.

The DCE stated that the district doesn’t have the necessary funds to fight galamsey activities which is causing huge distraction to farm lands hence they will need the government’s intervention.

He divulged that it is very disheartening to see more foreigners involved in the galamsey activities and the only way to stop them is the government resourcing the military airforce to use their choppers to fly over the river bodies to drive away all the galamseyers.

Some farm owners alongside the Pra River shared the frustration that the foreign illegal miners are causing them and the negative effects of the polluted river having on their crops.

They pleaded on the government to curb the menace which is destroying water bodies and affecting their farming activities.
