GES Directs Headmaster of GHANASCO To Step Aside As Authorities Probe “Toilet Cubicles” Saga

After a video of some students of Ghana Senior High School (GHANASCO) in Tamale using a toilet facility as an accommodation cubicle went viral on social media, the Ghana Education Service (GES) has intervened to investigate the issues.

As part of the probe into the incident, the GES has further directed the Headmaster of GHANASCO to step aside to make way for full blown investigations.

According to a statement released by the GES, the authorities said per their records the school is supposed to be underpopulated since the number of students posted to the school is far less than the vacancy declared by the school authorities.

The statement therefore described the situation as unfortunate adding that “records available to us indicate that, out of the 1790 vacancies declared by the school, only 1467 students have enrolled. The school is expected to have excess capacity to even house extra 300 students.”

“The Headmaster and the Senior Housemaster have been directed to step aside to allow for further investigations into the matter by the Regional Director of Education and report back in two weeks,” the statement signed by the Head of the Public Relations Unit, Cassandra Twum Ampofo disclosed.

GES has therefore assured the populace that it will ensure students entrusted to their care have a safe school environment.
