Ghana Armed Forces deny involvement of alleged ‘soldier’ in mining site robbery attempt

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has refuted claims regarding an attempted robbery at a mining site in Nyamesom, in the Ashanti Region, allegedly involving a 27-year-old man identified as a soldier.

In a statement released on Monday, March 25, 2024, GAF clarified that their investigation revealed the individual in question is not affiliated with the Ghana Armed Forces and has not been deployed to perform any duties at the said location.

“The attention of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has been drawn to a news item by Mynewsgh.com on Monday, 25 March 2024, about an attempted robbery at a Mining Site at Nyamesom in the Ashanti Region by a 27 year old man alleged to be a soldier of the Ghana Armed Forces.”

“Our investigation shows that the alleged suspect is not a soldier of GAF, neither has the institution deployed the said identified person to perform such duties at the said Mining Site. He has no ties whatsoever with GAF”

The statement emphasized that unauthorized use of military attire would be met with severe legal consequences, urging the public to report any suspicious individuals in military uniforms to the appropriate authorities promptly.

“GAF wishes to caution all persons who use military accoutrements without authorisation that they would be severely dealt with by the law when caught” statement signed by Director General Public Relations Brigadier General E Aggrey-Quashie, warned.
