Ghana Does Not Need 16 Regions For 30 Million Population – Kwame Pianim

It appears the creation of the 6 new regions by the NPP government does not sit well with renowned economist, Andrews Kwame Pianim.

The former senior government official and economist is of the opinion that the creation of the new regions was unnecessary which could have been avoided.

Mr. Pianim who was speaking on the current economic situation of the country in an interview on Tuesday noted that the new regions and its accompanying ministers and deputies ministers are taking a huge financial toll on the country’s resources.

According to Mr. Pianim, a country with a population of about 30 million does not need 16 regions to effectively manage its affairs.

He therefore indicated that the creation of the new regions as well as other mistakes of the government are the cause of the current economic hardship in the country.

“How many regions do we have now? 16. Do we need 16 regions for 30 million people? Every region comes with a regional minister and deputy regional minister. Four cars to consume fuel. Let’s be serious. … we have done a lot of mistakes,” Mr. Pianim admonished.

He again advised the government to take drastic measures that will help to reduce the huge expenditure burden on the country.
