Ghana marks 67th independence day celebration in Koforidua today

Ghana will today, March 6, 2024, mark her 67th Independence anniversary celebration.

This year’s Independence Day parade will be held at the Youth Resource Center in Koforidua, the Eastern Regional capital.

The parade will feature selected school children and the security services.

The theme for this year’s celebration is “Our Democracy, Our Pride”

Alassane Dramane Ouattara, the President of Cote D’Ivoire will be the Guest of Honour at this year’s celebration.

The event is also expected to be graced by some 120 ambassadors and high commissioners from various countries as well as Ghana’s Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin and the 275 Members of Parliament.

Ghana gained independence after 83 years of British colonial rule on March 6, 1957.

This makes Ghana the the first sub-Saharan African country to attain independence from colonial rule.

At the old Polo Grounds in Accra on the eve of Independence, March 5, 1957, the country’s first President, Dr Kwame Nkrumah declared Ghana as “free forever” from colonial rule, marking a historic turning point in the governance of the country.
