Ghana skipper Andre Ayew joins Ligue 1 side Le Havre

Black Stars captain Andre Dede Ayew has joined French Ligue 1 side Le Havre after a substantive spell of inactivity.

The veteran midfielder makes his return to the French top flight after eight years with his last run in the league being with Olympique Marseille.

This comes on the back of reports that linked the former Lorient and Nottingham Forest player to a club in the top half of the French League by French Football Journalist Sebastien Denis.

At the time of writing, Le Havre ranks seventh in the 18-team league standings with 14 points off three wins, five draws and three losses.

Prior to joining Le Havre, Ayew was unattached to any club since the conclusion of the 2022-2023 season following a short spell with Forest in the English Premier League.

Ayew has been included in the Black Stars squad that is due to play the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Madagascar on November 17 in Kumasi and Comoros on November 21.

The former Swansea City forward is the Black Stars most capped player and his signing comes as Ghana prepares to compete in the AFCON for the tenth consecutive time.

Ghana has been drawn in Group B with Egypt, Mozambique, and Cape Verde in Ivory Coast at the 2023 AFCON.
