Government Launches “One Student, One Laptop” Program

The One-Student One-Tablet (1S1T) program has been implemented nationwide in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) schools by the Akufo-Addo-led government.

Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, the Minister of Education, has revealed intentions to provide free tablets to over 1.4 million students in government Senior High Schools, marking a significant advancement in modernizing education in Ghana.

He claims that the transformative endeavor, which will start in April, is a crucial part of the Free Senior High School program, which aims to improve the standard of instruction in public Second-cycle schools.

Vice-President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia made a statement stressing the government’s commitment to digital transformation in education, which is followed by this announcement.

At the University of Ghana, Legon, during the New Year’s School, Dr. Bawumia highlighted that all Senior High School students in the country will soon receive complimentary electronic tablets. These tablets will be invaluable teaching tools that increase students’ access to resources that are needed for their academic endeavors. They come preloaded with important textbooks and practice questions.

“This year, we are poised to provide every Senior High School student with tablets containing essential textbooks and preloaded past questions,” affirmed Dr. Bawumia. “This initiative is not merely about distributing devices; it signifies a paradigm shift towards leveraging technology to facilitate learning and empower our youth for success in the digital age’’ Dr. Bawumia noted.

Since the government began distributing the tablets, 868 have been given to the Sefwi Awaso STEM SHS in an effort to improve education and give all students equal chances in light of the growing role that technology plays in our educational system.

Information and communication technology (ICT) integration in our educational system has advanced significantly thanks to this effort.
