IPC set to discuss Russia and Belarus ban appeals at next meeting in September

The Independent Appeals Tribunal of the Paralympic International Committee (IPC) has communicated it will make a decision regarding the appeals of NPC Russia and NPC Belarus at its next General Assembly in September this year.

The IPC issued a statement at its Extraordinary General Assembly on 16th November 2022 to suspend PC Russia and NPC Belarus from all IPC-related events with athletes representing both countries declined entries to any IPC world and regional championships and sanctioned-level competitions of the six World Para Sports governed by the IPC.

Both NPC Russia and NPC Belarus have appealed their suspension, and in-person hearings were held with the IPC’s Independent Appeals Tribunal on the 25 and 26 April, respectively in Dubai, UAE.

The International Paralympic Committee issued a press release on Friday, May 12, 2023, on its decision on the suspension of both NPC Russia and PC Belarus to go back before the IPC General Assembly which will be held in Bahrain between 28-29 September 2023, further stating its earlier sanctions against both committees still hold in full force.
