Keli Gadzekpo steps down as ECG board chair

The Board Chairman of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Mr. Keli Gadzekpo has resigned from his position.

His decision takes effect on April 9, 2024.

Mr. Gadzekpo cited personal reasons for his decision to resign in a letter addressed to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Tuesday, March 26, 2024.

He expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the president for the opportunity to serve the country for the past seven years.

Furthermore, Gadzekpo wished ECG and the government continued success in the effort to providing stable electricity for the country.

His resignation comes at a time the power distribution company is struggling to stabilize electricity supply across the country and therefore embarks on load shedding.

ECG, however, insists although parts of the country keep grappling with inconsistent power supply, creating disruptions in daily life, it does not need the release of a load-shedding timetable.

Laila Abubakar, ECG’s External Communications Manager, explained that other reasons may have contributed to the recent power outages.

“The thing is, we just want people to be aware that when your power goes off, it is not always a matter of load shedding,” she said.

“There are several issues and there are some of them that fall before the doorsteps of ECG. We are doing as much as possible to solve the ones that we can,” she explained.

She clarified that “There aren’t any issues with shedding load. The load shed, I think is what people understand by ‘Dumsor’. But usually, when someone asks me if, there is Dumsor, I ask them what do you understand and what do you think ‘Dumsor’ means. Unfortunately, there wouldn’t be a timetable.”
