Kumasi traders rally support for Bawumia ahead of 2024 election

A major boost has been given to Vice President Dr. Bawumia’s chances of winning the presidency on the New Patriotic Party (NPP) ticket on December 7.

Over 13,000 traders from the 25 Identifiable Groups in Kumasi Central Market announced yesterday that they were in favor of Dr. Bawumia.

According to the group, “We have heard reports that a certain group, claiming to be part of us, have decided not to vote for the NPP because the second phase of the Kejetia project had been stalled. That report is false, so treat it with contempt.

“All the traders here know that the contractor has only asked for an upward adjustment of the contract sum due to economic reasons, using the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic as the main reason in their fresh demands.

“And if anybody or group turns around and state that the project had been stalled so the traders would not vote during the 2024 polls, it’s a big lie,” Elder Emmanuel Gyeke, Chairman of the Identifiable Groups, noted.

Addressing journalists at Kejetia, he stated that the traders decision and resolve to vote for Dr. Bawumia and the NPP during the elections is irreversible and non-negotiable.

Elder Emmanuel Gyeke declared, “We are for Dr. Bawumia,” adding that the 25 Identifiable Groups will not be dissuaded from supporting Dr. Bawumia and the NPP by any amount of obvious lies, propaganda, or other influence.

Additionally, he refuted previous media claims that claimed the NPP government had not done much to advance the Ashanti Region, emphasizing that in fact, the current administration has made significant progress in transforming the area.

He stated that the Kejetia Redevelopment Projects (Phase 1 and 2), many road construction projects, health facilities, educational infrastructure, and employment creation have all benefited the Ashanti Region.

Elder Gyeke said, “We are also aware of the road constructions going on from Bekwai Roundabout to Santasi, Asuofia to Ohwim and many other hospital projects ongoing in the region,” adding that he was sure that the phase two of Kejetia Market project would be completed soon.

On her part, Nana Bea Addo, Secretary to the Identifiable Groups said, “Let everyone in the country hear us well. We at the Kumasi Central Market will vote massively for the NPP because they have shown commitment to our welfare and development.”
