Kwesi Pratt Describes Move To Send Troops To Niger As Senseless; Says Will Plunge Entire West Africa Into War

Veteran journalist and the Managing Editor of the Insight Newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Junior has poo-pooed ECOWAS’s decision to deploy a standby force to Niger following the coup that ousted President Bazoum.

According to ECOWAS, the military deployment will be missioned to reinstate the ousted civilian government should the military junta refuse to back down.

The intervention, Kwesi Pratt Junior says will not be in the best interest of West Africa as far as the peace of the sub-region is concerned.

According to Kwesi Pratt, the planned mission of ECOWAS will rather degenerate into war within the sub-region.

Speaking on Accra-based Peace FM, the seasoned journalist explained that the West Africa sub-region is already faced with a huge security threat from Islamist insurgents. He added that joining forces against Niger will rather escalate the activities of these terrorists hence plunging the entire region into war.

“It will be an internal West Africa war. If we fight these soldiers who are fighting against these Islamic insurgents, what would it do to the state of Islamist insurgency in the sub-region? It means we are going to kindle the terrorists”, the managing editor of the Insight Newspaper explained.

Mr. Pratt also stated that the United States has their second largest drone base in Niger, hence the ripple effect for West Africa will be huge should ECOWAS attack Niger.

“If you have the second largest drone base in the world there, what are the consequences likely to be?”, he asked, stressing “there is no wisdom in this fight”.
