Mahama urges Ghanaians to persevere despite challenges in voter registration

The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) John Dramani Mahama has encouraged first-time voters to remain determined and register to vote despite the challenges faced on the first day of the voter registration exercise.

The former President acknowledged the difficulties encountered by many citizens who turned out to register, but urged them not to be discouraged.

Mr. Mahama emphasized the importance of this year’s election while admonishing the applicants not to give up but know hoe essential it is participating in the democratic process and having a say in the country’s future.

Mr. Mahama stressed that “Ghana needs your vote on December 7,” and encouraged those who could not go through the process on the first day, to visit the Electoral Commission (EC) offices and selected electoral areas again to complete their registration.

“It wasn’t a good start to the registration exercise, today, but be encouraged to register for change. Don’t let the frustrations stop you from visiting the EC office and the selected Electoral Areas again tomorrow to be registered” Mr. Mahama noted.

“Ghana needs your vote on December 7. Get registered to vote Mahama and the NDC”

The exercise which begun Tuesday May 7, 2024, was marred by reports of long queues, technical issues, and other challenges, leading to frustration among the registrants.

The EC in a statement acknowledged the challenges and blamed it on malfunctioning devices and network connectivity but was quick to add that “these technical problems had been fixed by noon”
