You Can Get Free Medical Care With Ghanacard-NHIA

Healthcare services can now be obtained using the Ghana card at any authorized health center in the nation, according to the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA).

The plan is to eliminate the NHIS cards from the system and replace them with a single card, saving the country money on the cost of creating both Ghanacards and NHIS cards.

This was said by Dr. Aboagye Dacosta, the Chief Executive of the NHIA, during a courtesy call on Okuapenhene Oseadeeyo Kwasi Akuffo III at Akropong on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, following the commissioning of an ultramodern NHIS Office Complex at Lower Manya Krobo Municipality in the Eastern Region.

“Under the Digitalisation agenda of the government, we are mandated to have One Card and that’s the Ghana card. Some of the age groups that are below 15 years have no Ghanacard, but NHIS cards are printed for them”.

According to him, “this card would be integrated with the NHIS member details so the merged or linked Ghanacard is used to access health care. This will save the nation the cost of printing NHIS cards as well as Ghanacard. The merged or linked Ghanacard is used to access healthcare”.

He added that as part of the NHIA, foreigners who are not Ghanaians will now have access to health insurance under a mandatory health scheme anytime they are in the country.
