Mahama will maintain Naana Opoku Agyemang as running mate — Sam Pee Yalley

A senior member of the National Democratic Congress, Sam Pee Yalley, says the party’s flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama will maintain Professor Jane Naana Agyemang as his running mate for the 2024 general elections.

Mahama was declared the winner in the NDC presidential primaries after polling 297,603, representing 98.9% of the votes, while his challenger, former Kumasi Mayor Kojo Bonsu secured 3,181 votes(1.1%).

Despite losing in the 2016 and 2020 elections to President Nana Akufo-Addo, 64-year-old Mahama has been eyeing a return.

Mr. John Mahama selected Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang as his running mate for the 2020 presidential election.

Professor Opoku-Agyemang, was a former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast, Ghana, the first female Vice-Chancellor of a state university in Ghana, and also the first female running mate of any political party in Ghana. He served as a former Minister for Education in Ghana.

Some political analysts and pundits are wondering if Mr. Mahama will make the same choice.

Speaking on the Hot Seat programme on Original TV on Sunday afternoon, the former Ghana Ambassador to India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Maldives, Sam Pee Yalley stated that the same condition or criteria to which the NDC flagbearer, in consultation with the party’s Council of Elders, used in selecting Professor Jane Naana Agyemang as his running mate for the 2020 general elections, has not changed and that she is the best bet for the party.

He stated that the pair made tremendous headway in the 2020 general elections and that “if it is not broken, don’t fix it”
