Military officer arrested for brutalizing civilians during football match at Nyanyano

Salisu Mulah, the military officer who led his colleagues to brutalize some civilians at Nyanyano Kakraba causing one of the victims to become paralyzed had been arrested by police.

The arrest is a result of consistent efforts by the Central East Regional Police Command following the dastard act.

On August 5, 2023, Daniel Sekyere aka Zylem suffered a military brutality that nearly took his life as he became paralyzed and had a speech impairment.

He was among some spectators who had gone to see a local football match between Sabony Stars and Eocene Aside FC at Kakraba near Nyanyano in the Gomoa East District of the Central Region.

However, an argument ensued between the two sets of players midway into the game and one of the players phoned his brother, Salisu Mulah, a military officer who arrived at the scene later with some uniformed colleagues of his, and brutalized everyone including spectators.

Xylem suffered severe brutality and became paralyzed. He spent a couple of weeks at various hospitals including Korle-Bu before regaining his health partially.

He describes his survival as miraculous.

But following widespread publication of the brutality and sustained efforts by police, the military officer at the center of the matter, Salisu Mulah has been arrested by the Central East Regional Police.

Xylem says he is looking forward to a fruitful prosecution of Mulah to serve as a deterrent to others.

For relatives of Xylem, the development came as a surprise, and they have had very tough times taking care of his medical bills.

It even took the intervention of the whole community and some friends who mobilized financial resources to support the victim.

Relatives say all they are seeking is justice for Xylem.
