NDC rejects EC’s proposal to change election date to November

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has opposed the Electoral Commission (EC)’s proposal to change the election date from December 7 to November 7.

The NDC is rather calling for a comprehensive review of the electoral process through inclusive and proper dialogue.

According to the NDC, the party’s suggestion was captured in a document submitted to the EC during the Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting on Monday, January 22, 2024.

The party’s Director of Elections and IT, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah noted a Facebook post on Wednesday, January 24.

“We (NDC) do not support the November date for elections. Instead of cherry-picking, we (NDC) call for a comprehensive review of the electoral process through inclusive and proper dialogue; we already submitted our proposals to the EC,” Mr. Omane Boamah noted.

The Electoral Commission has proposed the date of Presidential and Parliamentary elections to be moved from December 7 to November 7.

The Commission wants election days to be designated as national holidays.

The EC’s Chairperson Jean Mensa presented these proposals, aiming to stimulate discussions on potential enhancements to the electoral process during the Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting held on Monday, January 22, 2024.
