Official: Parliament approves 2024 Budget

Despite strong opposition from the Minority, Parliament has finally approved the 2024 budget.

Following the headcount, the minority caucus received 136 votes, while the majority caucus got 138.

After the conclusion of the debate on Wednesday, November 29, Speaker of the House Alban Bagbin called for a voice vote on the approval of the budget in favor of the Majority.

The Majority group was forced to stage a walkout when the Minority Caucus challenged the decision and chose to conduct a headcount instead.

In order to approve the government’s economic policy and budget statement and open the door for the approval of budget estimates, Speaker Alban Bagbin then declared that a headcount vote would take place today, December 7.

After the headcount, Alban Bagbin, the Speaker of Parliament, , said, “At the end of the headcount, the ‘ayes’ had 138, Nos were 136, one absent. The ayes have it. The 2024 budget has been approved.”
