OTI REGION: DYNAMIC WORKS FOUNDATION WITH SUPPORT FROM KGL FOUNDATION LAUNCHED ADOLESCENT GIRLS EMPOWERMENT PROJECT IN NKWANTA SOUTH MUNICIPALITY.

Dynamic Works Foundation, with support from KGL Foundation, has initiated the Adolescent Girls Empowerment project in Nkwanta South Municipality.

The project aims to empower adolescent girls in education, health, and self-confidence, providing vital support and opportunities in a region where girls often face significant limitations.

TREATS TO GIRL CHILD EDUCATION: Between 2021 and 2023 alone, 322,121 young girls became pregnant. Ghana Health Services reported 555,575 cases of adolescent pregnancy between 2016 and 2020. In 2023, 10.6% of teenage girls, including those in basic schools, experienced pregnancy in Ghana.

Gloria Cann, Executive Director of Dynamic Works Foundation, highlighted that vulnerable adolescent girls often lack access to quality basic education, hindering personal growth and national development. The project emphasizes sex education and other strategies to reduce teenage pregnancy and early sexual activity.

GOALS AND OBJECTIVES:
The project aims to educate 2,350 basic girls and boys in Nkwata South Municipality on the causes, effects, and prevention of teenage pregnancy, using a “Victims/Survivors of Teenage Pregnancy” approach.

It plans to establish and train 21 school-based “Dynamic Groups” to dramatize issues related to teenage pregnancy, aiming to prevent adolescent pregnancies in beneficiary schools.

The project also includes monitoring girls’ absenteeism in 25 beneficiary schools, with a goal of reintegrating at least 5 girls who left school due to recent closures resulting from communal conflicts.

BENEFICIARIES:
Approximately 2,350 basic pupils (1,013 boys and 1,337 girls) aged 10-15 in 25 basic schools will gain improved knowledge on teenage pregnancy causes, effects, and redress mechanisms.

Additionally, 100 female and 25 male teachers, 15 local government heads, 5 traditional authorities members, and 25 persons with disabilities will be mobilized to participate in project activities.

Richard Apau, the School Improvement Support Officer (SISO), noted that 15% of adolescents drop out annually in Nkwata South Municipality due to financial constraints leading to teenage pregnancy. He welcomed the project’s support, especially for the girl child.

About Dynamic Works Foundation (DWF): Founded in 2020 by Mrs. Gloria Cann, Dynamic Works Foundation is dedicated to adolescent welfare, talent development, and education. Based in Madina, Accra, the organization focuses on nurturing young talents and supporting the education of underprivileged children.
