Parliament experience brief ‘dumsor’

Parliament experienced a blackout on Thursday, February 29 during the day’s proceedings.

Deputy Finance Minister Abena Osei was on the floor opening the debate for the State of the Nation Address when the light in the chamber all of a sudden went off

The electricity challenge, according to Metro TV’s Mawutor, lasted for approximately five minutes.

It is unclear what caused the power supply.

Last week, some officials of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) stormed Parliament to disconnect the legislative house from the national power grid due to outstanding debts amounting to GH₵23 million.

Dumsor

Ghanaians across the country have been experiencing power outages for several months, promoting a scare of the return of dumsor.

The unstable electricity supply is affecting business growth and the economy at large.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Minister-designate for the Energy Ministry, Collins Adomako-Mensah, says the government is taking proactive measures to resolve the recent power disruptions experienced across the country within the next two weeks.
