Police arrest driver who allegedly caused train accident on Tema-Mpakadan rail line

The driver of a Hyundai truck with registration number GS 9018-20 has been arrested by the Ghana Police Service on suspicion of causing an accident involving a recently imported train on the Tema-Mpakadan railway line.

During a test run on Thursday, April 18, 2024, the recently imported train from Poland was engaged in an accident.

The Police said in a statement that the results of their early investigation showed that the suspect driver had left the vehicle unattended on the railroad track, which had caused it to collide with the train.

“Police investigation into the incident continues.”

The truck driver reportedly went on a cement block delivery, and when he couldn’t use a pass-through beneath the bridge, the truck got trapped on the rail.

Engineers are repairing the train, according to Minister of Railways Development Peter Amewu.
