Quayson’s trial: Case to proceed on a day-to-day schedule

An application to stay proceedings by Member of Parliament for Assin North, James Gyakye Quayson has been shot down by an Accra High Court presided over by Justice Mary Maame Ekue Yanzuh.

This comes after lead counsel for the legislator, Tsatsu Tsikata fiercely argued the submission by prosecution to continue the case on a day-to-day hearing.

According to the judge, Justice Mary Maame Ekue Yanzuh, there is no special circumstance that warrants the demand not to continue hearing the case daily.

To the Deputy Attorney General, the ruling establishes the essence of ensuring an expeditious trial.

While this scores another point for prosecution, a member of the National Democratic Party’s legal team, Abraham Amaliba says the decision of the court is a travesty of justice.

Abraham Amaliba added there is an intention to file for an appeal to overturn the court’s decision.

The case has been adjourned to July 14th, to have the prosecution present its first witness, Richard Takyi Mensah for cross-examination.
