Revoke Ofori-Atta’s ‘face-saving appointment’ – AFFA to Akufo-Addo

The Alliance For Footsoldiers Advocacy (AFFA) has expressed its disappointment in President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo over the appointment of ex-Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta as Senior Presidential Advisor and Envoy Of International Finance and Private Sector Investment.

The group has asked President Akufo-Addo to revoke Ken Ofori-Atta’s “face-saving appointment in the national Interest.”

AFFA in a statement available to Metro TV states that in as much as the President of the Republic of Ghana is clothed with the executive authority to appoint persons he deems fit into his government, it is equally important that, he refrains from exercising that power arbitrarily and capriciously.

It explained it is needless to say Ken Ofori-Atta’s performance as Minister of Finance post-COVID-19 has been questionable and the least Ghanaians expected is for him to step aside from economic decisions of the country as pertained in other jurisdictions.

“Ken Ofori-Atta remains the only Finance Minister at least in the Fourth Republic who has received public condemnation from Members Of Parliament of his own party New (NPP) New Patriotic Party,” said AFFA in the statement.

AFFA also indicated that appointing the former Finance Minister to “this novel position is not advisable amid the country’s current economic challenges is nothing but a slap in the face of Ghanaian electorates.”

“Mr President, with all due respect, it is about time you listened to the sentiments of the electorates in whose name you exercise your presidential powers in order not to make the campaign difficult for the new flagbearer. Ghanaians have had enough of Ken Ofori-Atta.”

AFFA further called on “all well-meaning party members and sympathizers to join the call to get out” of this latest appointment as it is a counterproductive to the National Patriotic Party’s ( NPP) strive to break the 8.
