School Placement: Don’t fall prey to fraudsters — GES

The Ghana Education Service (GES) is cautioning parents and guardians not to fall prey to persons who may approach them under the pretext of securing placement for their wards into their preferred senior high schools.

In a public notice issued on Sunday, January 29, the education body noted that preparations are ongoing for the release of Senior High School Placement for the 2023/24 academic year.

“Management strongly cautions the general public NOT to fall prey to deceitful persons that may approach them to pay money for a place In 5H5. Such persons are to be reported immediately to the Police”

“We also advise the general public to beware of fake news portals and instead follow  GES  official  social  media  handles;  Facebook  lges.gov.gh),  Twitter (Vgheduservice),  Instagram (@gheduservice)  and website  jges.gov.gh)  for credible information,” a statement signed by Cassandra Twum Ampofo said.

Earlier, the Ministry of Education cautioned against payment of money to secure placement.

According to the Ministry, School Selection and Placement process is purely on merit and no other consideration whatsoever.

“The Ministry further wishes to assure the public of a transparent, equitable, and merit-based placement process,” said the Ministry of Education in a statement signed by its Spokesperson, Kwasi Kwarteng dated January 28, 2023.

This comes on the heels of investigative journalist Manasseh Awuni Azure-led Fourth Estate yet-to-aired documentary ‘Placement For Sale’ which uncovers rot in the Computerized School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS)

“If anyone tells you that he has an A school for you, he is lying. Your child will continue to stay home. Now, the slot left is for the [Ministry of Education] staff. And that’s the one I am selling,” one of them told.
