Several grassroots executives in Northern Region promise to ensure Alan becomes NPP flagbearer

Many grassroots delegates of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Northern Region have pledged their support to Alan John Kwadwo Kyerematen in the November 4 presidential primaries.

They believe the former Trade Minister will eventually win the NPP presidential candidate slot despite his abysmal performance in the Special Delegates Conference.

According to them, delegates in the Saturday election held to elect five presidential aspirants to contest the party’s primaries were largely loyalists of Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

The grassroots delegates told Metro TV’s Northern Regional correspondent when he visited some polling station executives of the party in the region.

Many presidential aspirants of the New Patriotic Party including Alan Kyerematen, obtained zero votes during the special delegates conference in the Northern region on Saturday.

This has angered many polling station executives who believe the vice president is a presidency-sponsored candidate.

They insinuated that nothing will change if the vice president leads their party or even becomes the president because the same people leading and advising the president now, will continue to control the affairs of the vice president.

However, the pro-Bawumia supporters in the Northern Region are calling for cool heads to prevail.

After polls across the sixteen regions on Saturday, August 26, 2023, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia won with a total of 629 votes, representing 68.15% of the vote.

Assin Central MP Kennedy Ohene Agyapong placed second with 132 votes, or 14.30% whilst former Trade Minister Alan Kyerematen secured the third spot with 95 votes, or 10.29%.
