Standoff between Executive and Legislature threatens economy and social progress – Franklin Cudjoe

President of IMANI Africa, Franklin Cudjoe, has called for a prompt resolution of the standoff between Parliament and the Executive.

In a Facebook post on Tuesday April 2, 2024, IMANI Africa president highlighted detrimental impact on the country’s economy and governance as a result of the ongoing impasse between Parliament and the Presidency, with no clear end in sight.

With pressing matters such as the vetting and approval of ministers, with financial sector decisions hanging in the balance, Mr. Cudjoe emphasized the need for decisive action from the Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin, and both Majority and Minority leaders, along with their Whips.

In his statement on Facebook, Mr. Cudjoe urged the stakeholders to collaborate and establish a clear schedule for addressing the impasse.

This call by IMANI president comes amidst growing concerns among citizens regarding the prolonged political deadlock and its ramifications for the country’s progress and development.

Additionally, Mr. Cudjoe called upon President Nana Akufo-Addo to address the contentious issue of the anti-gay bill directly, rather than resorting to legal maneuvers.

He urged the president to engage with the public and provide clarity on the government’s stance, emphasizing the importance of transparent and accountable leadership in navigating sensitive social issues.
