There is no dumsor, no need for a timetable – ECG

Despite repeated power outages across the country, the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) says that a load-shedding timetable will be unnecessary.

The power distribution company refuted claims the dreaded load-shedding period colloquially called dumsor has resurfaced.

The ECG said, therefore, that although parts of the country keep grappling with inconsistent power supply, creating disruptions in daily life it does not need the release of a load-shedding timetable.

Laila Abubakar, ECG’s External Communications Manager, explained that other reasons may have contributed to the recent power outages.

“The thing is, we just want people to be aware that when your power goes off, it is not always a matter of load shedding,” she said.

“There are several issues and there are some of them that fall before the doorsteps of ECG. We are doing as much as possible to solve the ones that we can,” she explained.

She clarified that “There aren’t any issues with shedding load. The load shed, I think is what people understand by ‘Dumsor’. But usually, when someone asks me if, there is Dumsor, I ask them what do you understand and what do you think ‘Dumsor’ means. Unfortunately, there wouldn’t be a timetable.”

Meanwhile, the Electricity Company of Ghana on Monday, March 11, announced that power outages may occur in some parts of the country.

These outages are expected to occur during the peak load period between 7 pm and 11 pm.

According to the power distribution company, the increased demand on some 630 transformers nationwide has led to blown fuses and broken conductors in its transformers.
