The Asogli State Council says Togbe Afede XIV, the Agbogbomefia of Asogli, will accept the position of running mate if offered by the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, February 13, 2023, available to Metro TV, the Asogli State said Togbe Afede remains very passionate about the development of Ghana and that he left the United States (US) to Ghana after his studies at Yale, owns no properties and considers his fortunes to be inextricably linked to those of the country.

According to the Council, this explains Togbe’s willingness to share his knowledge and expertise with the government to further the course of development.

This comes after a group of people who identify themselves as the “Change Makers Forum” approached Togbe to consider joining the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress John Mahama as his running mate for the 2024 presidential elections.

Togbe responded that “as a patriotic citizen “, he would never reject an opportunity to serve the country but the choice of a running mate is the prerogative of the flagbearer who already knows him well.

The Asogli State noted that “Togbe has not mandated anybody or group to “lobby” for his choice as running mate. The Asogli State Council would like to apologize to the chiefs, kingmakers, and the people of Asogli for any shock or embarrassment they have suffered.”

The Council has indicated that Agbogbomefi operates an open-door policy and is open to communication, feedback, and inquiries from all citizens and stakeholders.

“We encourage individuals or groups to reach out directly on any matters, concerns, or suggestions that require attention.”
