UG Accommodation Crisis: 18 People Arrested For Disturbances On University Premise

Eighteen (18) people are now in the grips of the Ghana Police Service for their alleged roles in the disturbances on the University of Ghana Campus.

According to the Police, the 18 persons were arrested on Tuesday, February 14th, 2023 on the University premises adding that it is believed the suspects were together with about 200 others believed to be former members of the Commonwealth Hall of the university.

In a statement released by the Police on Tuesday, calm has since been restored on the campus for academic activities to continue.

All 18 suspects, the police said, are in custody and will be put before the court to face justice.
“Security has since been deepened on the campus for academic activities to continue without any hindrance. We would like to give the assurance that all other persons involved in the disturbances will be arrested and brought to face justice,” portions of the police statement read.

The protestors assembled at the University premise to register their dissatisfaction with how the management is dealing with the accommodation crisis in the university.

In their attempt to gain access to the Commonwealth Hall, the protestors clashed with Police personnel at the forecourt of the hall leading to arrest of these suspects.
