Alan Kyerematen’s Admission Of Current Economic Challenges Not Betrayal Of NPP Government – Camp

The camp of NPP flagbearer hopeful, Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen has debunked claims that their preferred candidate’s admission of the current economic difficulties in the country is a betrayal of the NPP government.

Alan Kyerematen who addressed a gathering of Chiefs and Elders at the Sehwi Wiawso Traditional Council during one of his campaign tours admitted that the country is currently in hard times which were mainly precipitated by external factors.

He added that due to the negative external impact on the economy, Ghanaians have not been able to feel the impact of the NPP government’s policies hence making it a herculean task for the party to craft a campaign message which Ghanaians can resonate with.

According to the camp of the former Minister for Trade and Industry, a section of the NPP and the opposition have capitalized on what they describe as honest statements to imply that the NPP government has failed hence a betrayal by the former member of government.

The camp, which identifies themselves as Project-24, in a statement has described such arguments as mere propaganda which are baseless, inconsistent and unfounded. The team added that it is a deliberate attempt to taint the reputation of Mr. Kyerematen whose political image is without blemish.

Debunking the said claims, the team emphasized that it will be suicidal for the former Minister for Trade and Industry for this government in the past 6 years to condemn government since he himself diligently discharged his role without blemish.

“It must also be put on the record that Alan has been the most industrious trade minister this country has ever seen as evidenced with his role in the realization of the African Continental Free Trade Area and the establishment of over 290 factories across the country. This is simply epic,” portions of the statement read.

The team added that if the admission of the current economic difficulties is a betrayal of the NPP and government, then other senior officials of government such as President Akufo-Addo and Vice President Dr. Bawumia and a host of others have done same and hence must also be called out.

“If the claim is that Alan’s admission of the country’s economic challenges betrays the NPP and the government, then everyone who has made such admissions including the leadership of the NPP and all the leading members of government have betrayed the party too. So unless there is a rule that singles out Alan’s words and makes them invoke a different meaning from what all other leaders have said, then this unfounded and constructed propaganda should be put to bed,” the statement added.

The camp is therefore calling on all supporters of Mr. Alan Kyerematen’s bid to lead the NPP into the 2024 General Election to reject the propaganda and focus on the long-standing reputation and competence of their candidate.
