Nana Akomea denies govt abandoning Akosombo Dam spillage victims over political affiliations

Managing Director of the State Transport Corporation, Nana Akomea, has denied claims that the government has neglected the Akosombo Dam spillage victims, especially on basis that North Tongu does not vote for the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Speaking on Good Morning Ghana on Metro TV, Nana Akomea noted that the Member of Parliament for North Tongu’s assertion that the president does not benefit politically from the victims hence has neglected them to their fate is nothing but a mere fallacy and propaganda.

“Why? Is always that we are happy with government’s action? To say that government hasn’t acted according to the way all of us expected because the people vote NDC cannot be the correct interpretation But of you choose to have it, it’s fine but I am saying that it cannot be. You may say that the President has talked about voting pattern and you may say that it’s inappropriate but to say that it’s because the people vote NDC cannot be right because if that is the feeling of the president, why will he go there? Why will he be talking about the people in March? Why? There has been a lack between the rhetorics and the actions, all of us are not happy but to say that, that lack between the rhetorics and the actions is because the people vote NDC, I don’t agree,” said Nana Akomea.

His comments come on the heels of Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa claims that “when the president visited us, his statements didn’t inspire confidence, we actually felt insulted, why should our voting pattern be raised in this matter, in this disaster, why? So now people are doing comparisons and drawing parallels and you can’t blame them. Is it because Appiatse they don’t vote like the way people of North Tongu votes? We heard the president pointing his left finger at the chiefs, saying they don’t vote properly. Why would he do that?”

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Monday, October 16, 2023, visited victims of the Akosombo dam spillage to sympathise with the victims.

Speaking at an event, President Akufo-Addo said “I came here because Ghanaians are having difficulties and suffering and it is my responsibility to try and help, because if it is a question of who votes for me and who does not vote for me, I should not be here because you don’t vote for me, that is not my concern.”
