Akosombo Dam Spillage: Govt has abandoned victims because they come out NDC – Ablakwa

Member of Parliament for North Tongu Constituency, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has bemoaned the lackadaisical attitude of government towards the plight of the Akosombo dam spillage victims

Speaking on Good Morning Ghana on Metro TV, the lawmaker insists that President Akufo-Addo is exhibiting the laid-back attitude towards the victims because they don’t vote NPP

“When the president visited us, his statements didn’t inspire confidence, we actually felt insulted, why should our voting pattern be raised in this matter, in this disaster, why? So now people are doing comparisons and drawing parallels and you can’t blame them,” Ablakwa, whose constituents suffered from the spillage noted.

Following the impact of the flood waters from the dam, President Akufo-Addo on Monday, October 16, 2023, visited the area to sympathise with the victims and said “I came here because Ghanaians are having difficulties and suffering and it is my responsibility to try and help, because if it is a question of who votes for me and who does not vote for me, I should not be here because you don’t vote for me, that is not my concern,”

Mr. Okudzeto Ablakwa says the singular comment by the President is a cause to believe that the total neglect by the government is political.

“Is it because Appiatse they don’t vote like the way people of North Tongu votes? We heard the president pointing his left finger at the chiefs, saying they don’t vote properly. Why would he do that? Even on that visit, one would have thought that he would have come with relief items because individuals, corporate institution came with relief items but he came empty handed, insulted us, left and since then, nothing,“ lamented Okudzeto Ablakwa.
