Road Safety Authority reports alarming increase in accidents, deaths, and injuries

The National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) has hinted of a disturbing report indicating a significant increase in road accidents, fatalities, and injuries in the first quarter of 2024 compared to the same period last year.

According to the NRSA’s national provisional statistics, there has been a 2.4% increase in reported cases, a 7.6% increase in persons killed, and a 2.1% increase in persons injured from January to March 2024, compared to the same period in 2023.

This alarming trend raises concerns about the safety of Ghana’s roads and the need for urgent measures to address the issue. The NRSA has attributed the increase to factors such as speeding, reckless driving, and non-compliance with road safety regulations.

The report has sparked calls for increased enforcement of road safety laws, public education, and awareness campaigns to curb the growing number of road accidents.

The NRSA has urged drivers, pedestrians, and other road users to exercise caution and adhere to road safety guidelines to prevent further loss of lives and injuries.

The authority has also pledged to intensify its efforts in promoting road safety through education, enforcement, and research to reduce the carnage on Ghana’s roads.
