2022 WASSCE: Two Ghanaian Students Emerge As Overall Best In West Africa

At the end of the 2022 Edition of the West Africa Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), two Ghanaian students have emerged as the overall best in the entire West Africa.

The two students are Alex Opoku Manu and Benjamin Eyram Nana Kwame Debgey both from St. James Seminary SHS in Sunyani.

The two were awarded for their exceptional performance in the examination at an award ceremony held in Banjul, Gambia during the 71st annual council meeting of the West African Examination Council (WAEC) from the 13th to 17th of March 2023.

Alex Opoku Manu and Benjamin Eyram Degbey picked the first and second positions respectively whiles a Nigerian, Odigigbo Chioma Blessing picked the third position.

The Ghana delegation was led by the Director-General of Ghana Education Service (GES), Dr. Eric Nkansah. The delegation also included Father Owusu Sekyere, the headmaster of Opoku Ware School who also attended the meeting in addition to some officials of WAEC in Ghana.
The 5-day program was officially opened by the President of the Republic of Gambia, H.E. Adama Barrow.
