369 killed in road crashes in first two months of 2024

369 persons died in 2,260 road crashes in the first two months of 2024, the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) has disclosed.

There was a minor rise in traffic accidents during the first two months of January and February 2024.

During the 2024 Road Safety Easter Campaign launch, NRSA Director-General Ing. David Osafo Adonteng revealed that in the first two months of 2024, 2,260 road crashes involving 3,910 cars were reported, resulting in 369 fatalities, 2,552 injuries, and 381 pedestrian knockdowns.

In the same time the previous year, 3,857 automobiles were involved in 2,249 instances. In addition to 2,502 injuries and 382 reported pedestrian knockdowns, there were 330 fatalities.

“There has been an increase in crashes of 0.49%, in vehicles involved in crashes of 1.37%, and in injured persons of 2.0%.”

Notably, the number of fatalities and persons killed rose by 11.82% when “compared to the first two months of 2023,” Ing David Sarfo Adonteng added.

The goal of the 2024 Easter Road Safety Campaign is to lessen accidents over the Easter vacation.
