8 die, several injured in accident on Akroso-Asamankese road

Eight persons were killed in a horrific accident on the Akroso to Asamankese road on Sunday.

The Motor Traffic and Transport Directorate (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service in the Eastern Region have commenced investigations into the incident.

A white Toyota Hiace with the registration number GM 3150-13 and a Pontiac Vibe with the registration number GG 3528-14 were involved in the incident that happened on Sunday, November 12.

Eyewitnesses say the driver of the Pontiac Vibe, which was traveling from Asamankese to Achiase, lost control of the vehicle as soon as he came to a section of road between Asamankese and Akroso.

This led to a head-on collision with the Toyota Hiace, which was carrying fifteen passengers.

Together with the assistance of the locals, police officers and other rescue workers who raced to the scene shortly after the tragedy were able to take the injured to the Asamankese Government Hospital for medical attention and move the corpses of the deceased to the hospital morgue for autopsy.

Family members of the deceased are still being called upon in an attempt to identify the bodies of the departed loved ones.
