AIDS Commission lacks funding to create awareness – Director of Research

The Director of Research, Monitoring and Evaluation at the Ghana AIDS Commission, Isaiah Doe Kwao says the Commission needs more funding to create awareness about the disease.

He also disclosed that the spread of HIV and AIDS has become a menace in the health sector and the economy at large with the commission’s new statics from the year 2022.

The AIDS Commission recently reported 16,574 new cases.

In an exclusive interview with Original TV, Director of Research, Monitoring, and Evaluation at the Ghana AIDS Commission, Isaiah Doe Kwao indicated that the Commission is facing financial difficulties which is impeding its operations.

“The education is ongoing but the financial constraints on the commission have made their door-to-door campaign and testing invisible to Ghanaians, but they are trying their possible best as a commission to safeguard the lives of persons from the widespread,” Isaiah Doe Kwao stated.

Mr. Doe Kwao said the Commission has engaged the government and reached out to other institutions for support but they are yet to come to its aid.

“Our international sponsors have suggested that our government should also invest in the commission and right now our government’s financial prowess is low notwithstanding that, we are still creating awareness and everyone should make it a point to get tested and know their status,” he disclosed.

According to him, stigmatization scares Ghanaians more than the disease itself and over 100,0000 people are unaware of their status and spreading it innocently however, a total of 250,0000 people have been tested and put on the anti-retroviral drugs to sustain their health sustain.

Isaiah Doe Kwao advised Ghanaians to overlook the stigma associated with HIV/AIDS and walk to any hospital or healthcare center to get tested for their safety,
