Akufo-Addo appoints Julie Essiam as new GRA boss

Madam Julie Essiam has been named by President Akufo-Addo as the new Commissioner-General of the Ghana Revenue Authority.

She takes Rev. Dr. Ammishaddai Owusu-Amoah’s position. Madam Julie Essiam served as the Commissioner in charge of the GRA’s Support Services Division prior to her appointment.

Her appointment was made just hours after the GRA Board was dissolved by President Akufo-Addo.

The Dr. Anthony Oteng-Gyasi-led Board was dissolved, while no explanation was provided; nonetheless, there have reportedly been some recent disagreements.

The president’s action follows days after New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia claimed that GRA was taxing businesses unfairly because of unachievable goals.

The dissolved GRA Board had Dr. Anthony Oteng-Gyasi as the board chairman, while, Mr. Ammishaddai Owusu-Amoah, Mad. Adelaide Ahwireng, Prof. Peter Ohene Kyei, Mr. Kwabena Boaten, Mrs. Dela Obeng-Sakyi, Dr. Maxwell Opoku-Afari, and Nana Ama Dokua Asiamah-Adjei as members.
