Chiefs of SALL petition Attorney-General over their exclusion from the 8th Parliament

The Chiefs and People of the outruled traditional areas, Santrokofi, Akpafu, Likpe and Lolobi (SALL) have written formally to Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Godfred Dame informing him about their exclusion and request for a possible inclusion in the current Parliament.

These traditional areas lost its representation in Parliament since 2 021.

In an open letter to the Attorney General, the Office of the Joint Steering Committee (JSC) said the issue was brought to the known of the Parliament in March 2022, but, little to no result was achieved, forcing rather injustice and abuse of rights to prevail.

However, they insist that the Justice Brobbey Commission committed an error when it recommended an inclusion of Lolobi and Akpafu Traditional areas in the newly created Oti region — a situation they described as a blunder and a calculated error which mars against Article 5(2) of the 1992 constitution of Ghana.

Meanwhile, the Committee has said that they remain resolute in their demand to get SALL Traditional Areas a legal Representation in Ghana’s current Parliament.

It would be recalled that the Electoral Commission on the eve of December 7, 2020 in a press release indicated that the people of SALL will not be allowed to vote in the Parliamentary election.

The EC indicated that their constituency has not yet been created and therefore they do not qualify to be involved in the 2020 Parliamentary elections.

This has been condemned by several people especially on social media who believe that the rights of the people of SALL have been curtailed by the EC for its failure to do their work.
