Confusion rocks NPP over Akyem Oda market project

Some Assembly Members belonging to the governing New Patriotic Party in Akyem Oda in the Birim Central Municipality of the Eastern Region have invoked the RTI Bill to request information on the ongoing Akyem Oda Central Market reconstruction project.

They perceive some high-profile party faithful in the constituency are hiding details of the contract from them and the municipal assembly as a whole.

According to the Concerned Assembly Members led by Emmanuel Appiah Kubi, who is the Assembly Member for Akyem Aboabo Electoral Area, those high-ranking NPP persons have employed a certain local radio station worker to speculate that a letter of enquiry he wrote asking questions about details of the market project is intended to halt the project.

This accusation, the Assembly Members say, has no iota of truth or, whatsoever and should be treated with the contempt it deserves.

The Concerned Assembly Members believe the details of the Akyem Oda Central Market Reconstruction Project the top NPP officials are keeping from them are dubious and risk hurting the party in the future.

They are worried that if the necessary steps are not taken to address the situation it will hunt the party in the constituency, in the worst-case scenario, should the NDC assume office some years to come.

The Concerned Assembly Members noted that since the party communicators are not privy to the contract they cannot mount a defense should the party be accused of embezzling funds.
