Desist urging your minor children to secure a voter’s ID card — Tamale EC Officer to Parents

The Electoral Commission (EC) Officer in the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly, Bismarck Ntim, has cautioned parents and guardians to desist from allowing politicians to urge their children below 18 years to partake in the ongoing limited voter registration exercise.

According to him, heeding to the pressure of politicians will have an effect on the development of the children in future.

“In fact, we are pleading with the parents to not allow the politicians to deceive them to bring them to register. It will have an effect on them in future. Their date of birth will change when they’ll need it for something else. It is going to affect them so it is better when they’re not up to 18 years old, they should wait [until] next year,” Mr. Ntim told Metro News in an interview on Wednesday, September 13, 2023.

“We’ll be doing the registration again when they are of age they’ll come and register so that it will not have [an] effect on them in future,” he added.

He narrated an incident involving a minor attempting to register which resulted in a near-fight at one of the registration centres.

The [political] parties agreed he should be registered but looking at him he will below 18 years.”

“There was so much argument until it went through. They even wanted to fight each other.”
