Dr. Duffour Calls For The Total Dissolution Of Government’s Economic Management Team

National Democratic Congress’ stalwart and a former Finance Minister, Dr. Kwabena Duffour has expressed worry with the continuous stay of the NPP government’s Economic Management Team.

According to Dr. Duffour, the team has outlived its useful considering the current situation of the country’s economy.

Speaking in an interview with Accra-based JoyNews, the former Finance Minister stressed that there is the need for the team to be dissolved including the current Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta who he believes has been abysmal in the performance of his duties.

Justifying his position, Dr. Duffour explained that it will be very difficult for the team to pull the country out the mess he believes they created themselves. The NDC flagbearer hopeful expressed his pessimism about the capacity of the team to deal with the current situation.

To him, the posture of the team is a clear indication that they really does not appreciate that there is even a challenge with the economy hence it will be prudent for the president to dissolve the team for fresh minds to be brought on board.

He said, “no problem can be solved from the save level of consciousness that created the problem. I think the management team must be looked at. They are the ones including the Finance Minister who created the problem. Can they solve the problem? Especially when I hear some them saying that Oh by the fact that we have been kicked out of the international market, we could have borrowed 2 billion [or] 3 billion, it means the same level of consciousness that created the problem. They have not seen that there is a problem. They have not seen it.”

The Economic Management Team is led by Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia with Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta as a member including other leading member of government. The vice president had earlier described the team as a “solid one” which is not comparable to that of the NDC.
