ECG disconnects power to Accra Technical University over debt

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has disconnected the Accra Technical University from the national grid over GH¢1.37 million debt.

This is part of the ECG Accra West Region’s revenue drive to complement a national effort to recover some GHs5.7 billion owed by customers.

During Monday’s exercise, the task force visited five residential and non-residential facilities.

The task force disconnected the Accra Technical University and Accra Digital Center were disconnected after an unsuccessful engagement.

The powerhouse has asked its customers to settle debts or be disconnected from the grid.

According to ECG, it risks shutting down if they are unable to clear an outstanding $1 billion owed to some Independent Power Producers (IPP) hence the revenue mobilisation drive.

So far, ECG has recovered 2.5 billion cedis out of the 5.7 billion cedis in debt since this national exercise began.
