Economic Management Team has failed us miserably – Benjamin Kofi Quashie

Chairman of the National Democratic Congress’s Council of Elders for South Africa, Benjamin Kofi Quashie has expressed his disappointment with the government’s Economic Management Team.

According to him, the team has not been transparent, especially in their dealings with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

“I usually do not like to make such categorical statements, but this Economic Management Team has failed our nation miserably by being so opaque, not being transparent.”

Speaking with Kwaku Owusu Adjei(Patoo) on Adwenekasa on Accra-based Original FM 91.9. he said,” The economic management team has failed and must be reconstituted immediately with fresh ideas and perspectives having supervised the worst public debt build-up, worst budget deficit, worst debt to GDP ratio, worst credit rating downgrade, worst-performing currency in the world, worst crisis of confidence in the economy.”

Benjamin Kofi Quashie noted that the debt restructuring programme does not give any assurance of a better tomorrow.

According to him, the administration is incompetent in steering the country’s economic affairs well leading the economy into crisis.

He said the economic management team has led the country to its worst international credit rating downgrade, diminished confidence in the local economy, and resulted in the poor performance of the cedi on the international market, among other things.

He said the entire membership of the economic management team must be revised.
